On May 5th – 11th, the Board of Directors of the AJJDC gathered in Israel for a week of deliberations and site visits.  The group consisted of 155 members from North American Jewish leadership.  During their visit in Israel, the members of the delegation met with the Prime Minister, the Chairperson of the Parliament and Interim President of the State of Israel, the Ministers of Welfare, Members of Parliament, mayors, businessmen, philanthropists, volunteers and professionals.

During their stay in Israel, the members of the AJJDC Board of Directors visited various JDC partnership programs in cities and communities throughout the country as well as those in the North which were damaged during the Second Lebanon War.  Among the communities, they visited were Carmiel, Safed, Upper Nazareth, Um-El-Fahem and a number of Druze communities.  They saw firsthand JDC's operations, programs and the assistance provided for the rehabilitation of the North.

The AJJDC Board of Directors' visit constitutes a gesture of honor and appreciation for JDC-Israel and the activities developed for the vulnerable populations in Israel.  The visit had special significance following of JDC-Israel's receipt of the Israel Prize and Lifetime Achievement Award for its unique contribution to society and the State of Israel.  This prize was awarded to JDC-Israel at Israel's most recent Independence Day celebrations.
